Under the motto “Everything under one roof”, the then Association of German Public Life and Liability Insurers and the new companies initially moved into a new shared building at Roßstraße 166 in 1976. In 1984, the Association of German Public Fire Insurers also relocated to Düsseldorf. The two associations formed a joint governing and administrative body there under the new name “Associations of German Public Insurers”.

In 1989, Deutsche Rück finally also moved from the Elbe to the Rhine and, effective 1 July 1989, formed a joint governing and administrative body together with the two associations.

A Strong Alliance

In 1996, the “Association of Public Fire Insurers” and the “Association of Public Life and Liability Insurers”, which formally still existed under the umbrella of the “Associations of Public Insurers”, merged under the name that still unites the public insurers today: Association of German Public Insurers.

Everything Under One Roof

It was a logical step for Deutsche Rück, as a company operating across regions, to relocate to Düsseldorf as well. The building on Hamburg’s Outer Alster had long since become far too small for the growing number of employees.

For the first time, the reinsurers of the public primary insurers – Deutsche Rück and the cooperative reinsurance by the Association – operated together under one roof.

A complex process of bringing together all the joint institutions of the public insurers, which had stretched over many decades, was brought to completion in Düsseldorf.
