“The Office of the Future”
In January 2024, Deutsche Rück laid the foundation stone for the “Twin Cubes” at the corner of Heerdter Lohweg and Willstätterstraße in Düsseldorf-Heerdt – just a short walk from its previous head office. The company’s success has also led to an increase in employee numbers. Around 280 people currently work at Deutsche Rück.
The previous building had become too small. It also no longer met Deutsche Rück’s requirements in terms of sustainability and new forms of collaboration.

Investment in the Future
Deutsche Rück and VöV Rück invested a sum in the hundreds of millions of euros in their new headquarters. A two-part building complex with more than 36,000 m² of space was built on the site.
Deutsche Rück built its 'Office of the Future' on a site that was more than 10,000 m² in size.
Deutsche Rück’s new home was completed in time for the anniversary year. On 30 March 2026, all employees moved into the new building.
The half-open work areas
The new headquarters was designed by the Cologne-based architectural firm caspar. Deutsche Rück and VöV Rück primarily use the first “Cube” themselves. Altogether, it provides office space for up to 600 people. The second “Cube” was sold to ÖRAG Rechtsschutzversicherung, the legal protection insurer of the public insurers.
Sustainable building
As a reinsurer, Deutsche Rück sees itself as having a responsibility to lead by example. For the new building, it therefore opted for sustainable construction methods and a future-oriented energy supply.

The buildings thus follow a design principle in which no unnecessary waste is generated. The energy concept of the Twin Cubes is based on an intelligent combination of active and passive measures: Photovoltaic elements on the roof and façades reduce primary energy demand, while the energy required for heating and cooling is optimised through geothermal energy in combination with heat pumps.
Fossil fuels can therefore be dispensed with completely.
Solar panels on the rooftop
The concept is supported by extensive greenery in the outdoor areas and on the roofs. The plants improve the urban climate and contribute to a healthy working atmosphere in the new “Office of the Future”. The spacious inner courtyard serves as communal spaces adjoining semi-public areas such as a café, conference rooms, a staff restaurant and co-working areas.

A Sign of Renewal
The new building is also a symbol of renewal in the company’s 75th anniversary year. The new headquarters makes new forms of working and collaboration possible. Whereas employees previously worked predominantly in fixed, individual offices, there are now flexible spaces ranging from retreat areas and open workspaces to creative and group rooms. Even the executive board no longer has fixed offices.
The message is clear: Deutsche Rück is transforming itself and creating a modern working environment focused on collaboration and cross-functional working.
Achim Bosch, CEO Deutsche Rück
“Employees are the foundation of our success. They should also feel appreciation for their work in the new workplace”
The focus here is on collaboration among colleagues in the new headquarters. These modern forms of working, together with Deutsche Rück’s commitment to shaping the future jointly – especially with its owners – are ultimately also reflected in Deutsche Rück’s purpose:
We provide stability – building strong relationships and a resilient future.
And even though our chronicle marking our 75th anniversary ends here, the story continues. We look forward to shaping the future of Deutsche Rück together.
